About us
After nearly 25 years of working only with nonprofits, we decided to move our knowledge to the education sector.
Over the past decade, new technologies and social media have drastically changed how people organize and campaign for good. But the systems and gatekeepers that decide who gets to lead, fundraise, and sustain a project too often keep out committed groups and individuals—especially those new to the sector or facing structural inequalities.
We know first-hand how a lack of knowledge, confidence, or resources can stop social entrepreneurs and community leaders before they even begin. That’s why we exist: to remove as many of these blockages as possible, and to put tools, training, and opportunity directly in your hands.
Our Story Starts in early 2017
We are a UK/US-based, impact-led Community Interest Company and Non-profit, dedicated to creating forever-free access to knowledge, resources, and support for new and emerging leaders in civil society. Since 2017, our directors, volunteers, and partners have supported a vibrant new generation of civic leaders—community groups, activist networks, solidarity funds, local youth projects, social enterprises, and global movements—helping them move from vision to action.
Recognizing the challenges posed by complex governance structures, inaccessible funding, legal requirements, and organizational know-how, we founded VCS Academy CIC to be a solution: a platform that removes these barriers so changemakers can focus on what matters most—impact.
Our Mission and Core Values
At VCS Academy CIC, our mission is to build a world where anyone with a passion for social change is empowered, resourced, and supported to make a difference. By breaking down the barriers to entry and progress in the civil society sector, we help grassroots changemakers transform their communities—and the world.
We envision a resourced, resilient civil society—empowered to create and drive real social change, tackling inequalities at the local and global levels. Our focus is not just on skills, but on building confidence and agency in every leader and volunteer we serve.
Since registration in December 2023, VCS Academy CIC has carried the burden of risk and management, so community groups don’t have to. The groups we serve share a common passion for making an equitable difference and experimenting with new, transparent, and inclusive ways of working.
We are proud to be a hub for innovators, organizers, educators, and funders—powering collective action for a resilient, impactful, and just civil society.

More than 6 million students are currently in online courses as part of their higher education program
Online learning is now a central pillar of higher education. Recent research shows that more than 6 million college students in the United States alone are currently participating in online courses, with the global figure even higher. Crucially, nearly half of all students engaged in online learning are enrolled exclusively in distance education programs—studying fully online, rather than in traditional classrooms.

What’s more, the perception of online learning has dramatically improved: 85% of students now believe that online education matches or exceeds the experience of traditional, in-person classes—citing flexibility, accessibility, and a self-paced approach as key benefits.
